Candida is a type of yeast or fungus that lives in the human body. The fungus usually exists in small amounts on the skin, inside the mouth, vagina and intestines. In fact, it may play a necessary role in our body’s microbiome, which helps regulate our health and immunity. Normally, the bacteria that live on and in the body, combined with the immune system, help control Candida populations. However, certain factors can cause this fungus to multiply out of control, resulting in a Candida infection called “candidiasis”.
Candidiasisis one of the most common and persistent fungal infections. However, it is often undiagnosed and most people do not even realize they have it. If left untreated, a Candida infection can cause a number of health problems, such as: fatigue, a white coating on the tongue or cheeks called “thrush”, food cravings, digestive problems such as gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea and nausea, skin rashes, fungal skin and nail infections, inflammation, joint pain, frequent headaches, teeth grinding, recurrent genital or urinary tract infections, and sinus infections. Therefore, it is important to take care of your health and treat Candida infections if they are found.
